COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to provide both the
clinical and scientific rationale for the current trends and new research
in the examination, surgery and rehabilitation of common injuries
/ conditions found in the lower extremity. Participants will learn
state of the art information to enhance their understanding and clinical
effectiveness in the treatment of hip, knee and ankle disorders. A
review of surgical procedures will be provided, as well as information
in the area of functional testing and brace selection. Rehabilitation
protocols that incorporate innovative techniques will also be presented,
as well as, recent research studies and patient clinical outcome studies.
Through didactic presentations and hands-on sessions, the course participants
will have an opportunity to master new and effective treatment techniques.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At completion of this course the participant
will be able to:
Discuss and demonstrate knowledge of normal locomotor biomechanics
and recognize primary biomechanical abnormalities of the lower quarter.
Discuss the indications and contraindications for the fabrication
and use of orthotics
Recognize specific pathology and pathomechanics of lower quarter
injury as it relates to a healthy active lifestyle
Perform a differential evaluation and design an appropriate
treatment program for strains, sprains, contusions, tendinitis and
bursitis which involves the lower quarter
Understand and discuss the goals, principles and surgical techniques
used for common lower quarter injuries
Discuss and perform various functional tests and special tests
used in the determination of readiness to return to activity
Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the various prophylactic,
postoperative and functional knee and ankle orthosis
Discuss and demonstrate the advanced principals of rehabilitation
for injuries involving the lower quarter

- Comprehensive course and reference manual, functional movement screening
manual, continental breakfast and breaks are included in the tuition
fee.
ELIGIBILITY
Physical
Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, Certified Athletic Trainers,
Occupational Therapists, and Certified Occupational Therapist Assistants
may attend applicable courses for continuing education credit.
CREDIT FOR COURSES
This course
offers 20 contact hours, equivalent to 2.0 CEUs.
When offered in states requiring
CEUs these courses will be approved by that states licensing
agency.
