Certification in Sports Physical Therapy
NASMI STC Program
To meet the demand for more clinicians to have a solid background in sports physical therapy, in 1990 North American Sports Medicine Instituted (NASMI) joined together with the University of St. Augustine (USA) certification programs to offer a specialty certification in Sports Physical Therapy (STC) for practicing clinicians.
The STC certification program offers a series of seminars, which culminate in a comprehensive examination, written, oral and practical testing to define competency in the specialty area of sports physical therapy.
The goal of the STC Certification is to provide physical therapists and practicing clinicians a means to upgrade their clinical skills in Sports Physical Therapy through quality continuing education and examination.
Sports Physical Therapy Certification Objectives
1. Provide an innovative and cutting edge educational program for all participants through the integration of state of the art learning tools with advanced professional clinical practice.
2. Develop practitioners skilled in sports physical therapy clinical decision-making based upon the best evidence available for the management of patients with musculoskeletal conditions.
3. Provide an efficient route for STC graduates to become an ABPTS certified specialist in Sports Physical Therapy.
4. NASMI/USA will identify therapists who have attained a safe and effective level of clinical practice in Sports Physical Therapy.
NASMI/USA will maintain a reference list of certification graduates for the purpose of facilitating patient referral to or between persons with such identifiable competency.
