Barb was the first Board Certified Sports Clinical Specialist in West Michigan, she has since been recertified twice by the ABPTS, most recently in 2013. She has been a Certified Athletic Trainer since 1988. Barb enjoys teaching about all aspects of physical therapy, intervention, and movement to entry-level DPT students, practicing clinicians, and sports residents, in her varied roles as an educator. Barb maintains a clinical practice, treating athletes and clients of all ages and abilities. Hallmarks of Barb’s practice include high level diagnostics/differential diagnosis, innovative applications of therapeutic exercise, based upon functional movement assessment and treatment approaches, and application of dry needling, functional musculoskeletal ultrasound, and biomechanical analysis.

 

Barb enjoys clinical research, and has authored many research and clinical commentary articles on the female athlete, nutrition, functional movement, and other sports physical therapy topics, and has contributed to14 textbooks and 7 Home Study Courses on various topics. Her most recent research interest includes electromyographic and 3-dimensional motion analysis of fundamental movements. She is the lead editor of the therapeutic exercise textbook entitled “Musculoskeletal Interventions: Techniques for Intervention, 3rd edition” published in 2014. She is also the Senior Associate Editor for the International Journal of Sports Physical Therapy.
